ABOUT US

The TSU S.H.A.P.E. Initiative (TSI) is a university Texas Southern University and community-based partnership established in 2014 by the Department of Social Work at Texas Southern University. S.H.A.P.E. stands for Substance Use, Mental Health, HIV/AIDS Prevention Education and addresses these health disparities by offering students and community members free and confidential in-person or virtual health screenings, comprehensive education, health resources, community-based referrals, and service linkage. 

TSI hosts community-based events and partners with entities to participate in health fairs, outreach, and engagement activities for individuals of all ages. Committed to a mission that promotes holistic-based sexual health awareness, action, and empowerment for all. 

We can fight back by raising awareness and reducing the rates of HIV, HCV, and substance use/dependence in our communities!

Friday, December 1st, the TSU S.H.A.P.E. Initiative hosted its inaugural 2023 World AIDS Day Celebration: A Night to Unite at Texas Southern University, Student Center Tiger Lounge. Over 50 faculty, staff, students, community members, and allies celebrated an evening with TSI as featured speakers, artists, and those with lived experience to collectively recommit to affirming sexual and mental health equity for all.

Dr. Grace A. Loudd

TSI Co-Director/Evaluator

Dr. Loudd is an Associate Professor of Social Work in College of Liberal Arts & Behavioral Science. She joined academia after working with the State of Texas as an Adult Protective Services Investigator/Case Manager. Dr. Loudd is a state licensed master social worker and supports a range of sexual and mental health and wellness initiatives dedicated to improving health outcomes and reducing disparities. In 2014, with the support of TSU Department of Social Work colleagues, TSI was established. Dr. Loudd remains committed to expanding the program, increasing service delivery, measuring its impact, and supporting those in their own quest for wholeness.

Dr. Dominique Guinn

TSI Co-Director/Educational Trainer

Dr. Guinn is an Assistant Professor of Health, Kinesiology & Sports Studies in the College of Education. She has more than 20 years of experience as a former Disease Intervention Specialist and Harris County Branch Manager. In addition to teaching classes, Dr. Guinn has and continues to serve as investigator, director, and advisor of various service programs benefitting diverse populations. Dr. Guinn is responsible for supporting TSI administration, is the director of the TSI Bruthas program, and leads our on campus and community-based educational programming.

She has the ability to be in three different states within a 48-hr period and on-time for her next meeting.

Ms. Nichole Akinbohun-Siner

TSI Operations Project Coordinator

Ms. Akinbohun ( affectionately known as Ms. A) is a Psychology/Biology Graduate of Texas Southern University. She has over 35 years experience in clinical HIV-based prevention, treatment, management, and programming. She has also held and supported leadership positions at both the city and county levels. Ms. A is responsible for day-to-day clinical operations, accountability, marketing and social media,  general education, and establishing community partnerships.
