Salutatorian Embraces Historic Feat as he Prepares to Begin MBA

Spring 2023 salutatorian Devansh Chadha crosses stage at Commencement

Devansh Chadha’s journey to salutatorian started on the other side of the world.

“I’m from Kolkata, India,” Chadha said. “That’s where home is for me. But I spent junior and senior year of high school in Australia. That’s when I got recruited to come to TSU.”

He was a member of the TSU men’s golf team.

“I came in August 2019. Stayed until March when COVID happened then came back to India for the rest of the year. I came back in January and never looked back since then.”

Devansh, who majored in Finance, was also a Freeman Scholar in the Thomas F. Freeman Honors College.

“The Honors College was really helpful, as well. Meeting a lot of professors and networking opportunities through them.”

He is part of a historic valedictorian-salutatorian duo. For the first time in the University’s 96 year history, the top two students in a graduating class were student-athletes.

“I didn’t really know I was salutatorian until the Honors College graduation day,” he said. “ It’s  been great. A lot of recognition. And hopefully the athletes can keep doing what we’ve been doing. We’ve been doing great. TSU athletics has been doing very well academically.”

Devansh will come back to TSU to begin his MBA in the fall thanks to the extra year of eligibility the NCAA granted student-athletes during the COVID pandemic.
