The Texas Southern University Earl Carl Institute for Legal and Social Policy Inc. (ECI) has been awarded a $75,000 grant by the Local Initiatives Support Corporation.
The grant will enable the ECI to support the Harris County Homeownership Collaborative (HCHC) through their WORTH initiative to reduce barriers to homeownership for persons of color. The work the ECI will do though this grant is projected to increase the number of net new BIPOC homeowners by 5,000 during the grant period.
ECI will be clearing title to heirship property in Black communities as part of the commitment to growing generational wealth for communities of color.
This grant to ECI will support HCHC efforts in advancing home preservation through solving tangled title and deed issues for BIPOC households to grow generational ownership and preserve wealth, as they are a lead institution in Heirs Property in the region.
