TSU men's outdoor track and field win SWAC title

TSU men's track & field team wins second consecutive SWAC outdoor championship

The Texas Southern University (TSU) men's track & field team made history once again with its second consecutive SWAC Outdoor Championship Tuesday night.

Texas Southern won the title with 136 total points as they held off a late charge from Jackson State. With the win, TSU won the SWAC track & field trifecta (cross country, indoor track & field, and outdoor track & field) for the second consecutive year, sweeping all conference team championships dating back to the Cross Country championship in October 2023. The program becomes the first SWAC men's track & field program since 2001-02 and 2002-03 to win back-to-back trifectas.

“We are beyond proud of our student athletes for this historic accomplishment,” said Dr. Kevin Granger, Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics. “These young men have worked hard to represent Texas Southern University and themselves with excellence and passion. With this championship, not only have they etched their names into the SWAC and Texas Southern history books. They have reminded everyone in our conference that the road to a track & field championship runs through our campus.”

In addition to the men’s team championship, four TSU student-athletes won their individual events.

  • Jalen Walker – Hammer
  • David Livingston – Steeplechase
  • Adam Hines – Pole Vault
  • Alyvia Brown – Women’s 10,000/5,000 Meter Runs

At the conclusion of the championships, longtime track & field head coach Clyde E. Duncan Sr. was named SWAC track & field coach of the year, adding to his collection of previous Coach of the Year honors: outdoor track & field (2016, 2024), indoor track & field (2015, 2016, 2024, 2025), and cross country (2019, 2023, 2024).

“The team set a goal at the beginning of the season to go back-to-back, and we knew what we needed to do to have a chance to achieve that goal,” Coach Duncan said. “They worked hard, remained disciplined, and approached every practice and meet as a new opportunity to improve their craft. This award belongs to them, the entire coaching staff, and the fans who supported us all season.”

Several individuals will await their next destination as the NCAA West Regionals will take place in College Station, Texas May 28-31.
