Quality Enhancement Plan Rationale

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) Principles of Accreditation for Quality Enhancement, 2018, requires that institutions have.

…a Quality Enhancement Plan that (a) has a topic identified through its ongoing, comprehensive planning and evaluation processes; (b) has broad-based support of institutional constituencies; (c) focuses on improving specific student learning outcomes and/or student success; (d) commits resources to initiate, implement, and complete the QEP; and (e) includes a plan to assess achievement.

What follows here is a plan developed by Texas Southern University (TSU) that addresses each of these key criteria of a Quality Enhancement Plan. TSU has identified a topic through its ongoing, comprehensive planning and evaluation processes and has designed a targeted intervention intended to significantly impact student academic success.

The TSU QEP is intended to be comprehensive. In an effort to ultimately impact academic success, it proposes to address issues and challenges related to the “whole student.” The plan proposes activities that directly engage students as soon as they express an interest in the University. It also proposes activities that support and empower students to matriculate beyond the first year and ultimately on through graduation.
