About the TRIO McNair Scholars Program
The TRIO Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program is a federally funded initiative designed to prepare underrepresented, first-generation, and low-income undergraduate students for doctoral studies. Named after Dr. Ronald E. McNair, a physicist and NASA astronaut who tragically lost his life in the Challenger Space Shuttle disaster, the program honors his legacy by supporting students in their pursuit of graduate education and research excellence.

The TRIO McNair Scholars Program is committed to increasing the number of diverse students who attain doctoral degrees. Through academic support, research opportunities, and mentorship, we aim to equip scholars with the skills and experiences necessary for success in graduate school and beyond.

Eligibility Requirements

Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

Be a first-generation college student (neither parent has earned a four-year degree) and/or meet low-income guidelines.

Be a sophomore, junior, or senior with a strong academic record and interest in pursuing a Ph.D.

Demonstrate a commitment to research and scholarly activities.
