Important Information For Students Using Post 9/11 GI BILL® Benefits

Starting Spring semester 2022, students using Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits will be required to verify their enrollment at the end of each month. Failure to verify for two consecutive months will interrupt the Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA) and/or kicker payments. This requirement went into effect for students at Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL) facilities for terms starting on of after December 17, 2021.

A simple and convenient verification option is to sign up for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) text message verification. Students with a US mobile phone number on file with the VA will receive an opt-in text as their next enrollment period approaches. Students who do not have a US mobile phone number on file with VA will not be able to use text verification and instead be automatically enrolled into email verification system. Another option for students who do not opt-in for text is to call the VA Education Call Center at 888-442-4551 to verify their enrollment status.

The Office of Veteran Services provides specialized programs and services to veterans, eligible dependents, active-duty service members, and members of the selected reserve. We are a one-stop-shop for anything that you, a student veteran, may need.

Although we also assist dependents, our main goal is to help veterans in whatever capacity necessary so that you can succeed with your educational and career goals. This may include helping with admission to the school, assisting with navigating VA benefits, and connecting with on and off-campus resources.
To help ensure your success, here are some of the services and programs offered by our department:

  • Assistance with submission of VA Education Benefits.
  • On-campus liaison with the VA and TSU departments who assist veterans as they navigate the university system.
  • Guidance regarding educational benefits eligibility and assistance with VA/TSU forms submission.
  • Provide a Veteran Mentoring Program and a Veterans Academic Enhancement Program
  • Programs and services that support student veterans with PTSD; also help veterans obtain on-campus services through Disabilities Services.
  • Conduct events and programs that connect veterans and build relationships with campus and the community, including employment information sessions to connect veterans with employers.

The Office of Veteran Services is here to serve you during your time with TSU. Allow us to help you transition to student life, graduating, and moving on to other great things!
