Welcome to the TSU SHAPE Initiative

The Texas Southern University (TSU) S.H.A.P.E. Initiative is a university and community-based partnership created by professors of the Department of Social Work. The purpose of this program is to provide access to HIV, STI, and Hepatitis-C (HCV) substance use/dependency screening and referrals. Through a variety of awareness activities, the program offers free screenings and test for TSU enrolled students and other young adults living, working, and/or going to school in the Greater 3rd and 5th Wards area. Consistent with the overall National HIV/AIDS Strategy, the program’s primary goals include implementing behavioral and environmentally sustainable strategies that reduce HIV, STI, Hepatitis-C (HCV) and Substance use/Dependency among young adults.

The Texas Southern University S.H.A.P.E. Initiative has two projects C.H.A.N.G.E. and Y.E.S.

C.H.A.N.G.E. (Change through Healing, Awareness, Networks, and Gateways to Empowerment) is a university and community-based partnership established in 2014 that ultimately seeks to increase access to substance use/dependence, HIV and Hepatitis-C (HCV) information, screenings and referrals among at-risk populations ages 18-24.

Y.E.S. (Youth/Young Adult Empowerment Services) project established in 2018. Its primary goals are to increase access to substance use/dependence screenings, health-related disease intervention (HIV, Hepatitis-C, Syphilis, Gonorrhea and Chlamydia screening), and prevention programming among minority youth (13-17) and young adults (18-24) within both Greater Houston 3rd and 5th Ward.

We can fight back by raising awareness and reducing the rates of HIV, HCV, and substance use/dependence in our communities!

The only way to know for sure if you have HIV/Hepatitis-C (HCV) is to get tested.
