Although Ossie Davis’s Purlie Victorious drew admirers like Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, and Eleanor Roosevelt, and
even inspired a film and musical, it didn’t see a Broadway revival until 2023.
That revival affirmed the play’s lasting power, making it a fitting, high-energy opener
for Main Street Theater’s 50th anniversary season.
Timothy Eric (TSU Theatre alumnus) and Brandon Morgan are named Best Actors in Topdog/Underdog at 4th Wall Theatre Co.
"Both Eric and Morgan, each of whom has received accolades for their previous stage work in the Houston area, handle their roles with telling authenticity. There is no clear-cut good guy versus bad guy in this play. The ending is equally devastating to both."
